10/20/17 – BV Soccer vs. Block Island

1-1 Tie

The Mariners (fittingly) traveled by sea to face off against Block Island in a non-league friendly competition. Conditions were beautiful but a very quick turn-around to make the ferry back meant there was little time to warm-up. This resulted in an erratic start to the game with neither team able to string their passes together and generate many good looks at goal. The Hurricanes were well organized in defense and did a nice job jumping passing routes and not letting the Mariners connect vertically. After a scoreless first half, the Mariners were finally able to strike when a free kick by freshman Marlon Monterroso hit the post. In the ensuing scrum in front of the goal, freshman Jasper Summers was able to get enough on the ball to get it into the back of the net. Block Island continued to play hard, however, and were rewarded when a nice cross from the left flank was headed home to tie the score.

Man of the Match: Jasper Summers

10/18/17 – BV Soccer vs. Barrington Christian Academy

4-0 Win

The Mariners were on the board early when sophomore captain Andrew Zito sent in a gorgeous cross that was headed home brilliantly by sophomore Kobe Polley. Later in the half Junior Jay-Juan Hayes added to the lead off of a nice through ball from Zito, and freshmen Marlon Monterroso gave Rocky Hill a 3-0 halftime advantage when he slotted home with an assist from senior Lester Li.  The Mariners controlled the game from there on, with freshmen Daxton Tassone and Dylan Lehouiller doing a great job controlling the midfield. Junior Peter Chen completed the scoring when he converted a penalty late in the second half.

Man Of the Match: Peter Chen

10/17/17 – BV Soccer vs. Cambridge School of Weston

1-2 Loss

The Mariners faced off against class D rival CWS. A bright start resulted in an early lead when Jay-Juan Hayes’ shot off the post was cleaned up by senior Lester Li. In a even affair, both teams saw numerous opportunities in the first half but the score remained 1-0. In the second half CWS amped up the pressure but the Mariners defense was up to the task, and when they slipped up sophomore goalie Griffin Spinney was there to make a clutch save. The dam finally burst when a through ball was initially handled but not cleared and CWS was able to level. The game stayed tied until late in the game when CWS put one more into the net.

Man of the Match:  Perry Clark

10/17/17 – MS Soccer B vs. Gordon School B

4-2 Loss

Rocky Hill played well against a strong Gordon opponent. Ben Lawson kept the score close by making 9 saves as keeper. Although outscored, we were certainly in the game. Defensive players Will Hanney, Derek Block, Alex Lehouiller, Qiheng (Jack) Wu, Tzu-chien (Yoii) Lo, and Hadley Martinez made big plays getting the ball up the field for exciting offensive opportunities. Finishing goals were made by Jae Hyeon Park in the first half and Skye Connell in the second.

10/17/17 – MS Soccer A vs. Community Prep

1-0 Win

The Mariners hosted Community Prep and entertained our fans with another well-played, exciting game. Community Prep consistently displayed excellent ball handling skills and good speed, but our excellent back line consistently thwarted them. We continued to display our improving passing and teamwork which enabled Dudley Samponaro to net one to give us the lead at the half. The second half featured continued aggressive play by both teams with back and forth rushes, but the Mariners held steady and earned another victory. Goalie Drew Tamburini continued his solid play and recorded his first career shutout.

10/14/17 – MS FH vs. North Kingstown

4-0 Win

North Kingstown had a strong team that had been undefeated until Saturday, but our girls rose to the occasion and demonstrated great TEAMWORK for the win! We saw dynamic offensive play from Sydney Boss with 2 goals and 1 assist, Lizzie Hayes led the defense with terrific block tackles and guidance to the newer players on how to most effectively position themselves on the field! Natalie Wilson and Genevieve Bradley were anchors in goal. Shout out to both Hannah Boss and Orabel Piccoli for their first assists of the season and very strong all around contributions by Charlotte Boss, Alexis Cote, Juliana Hayes and Jade Ma. Sydney Boss 2 g, 1a; Charlotte Boss 1g, 1a; Lilly Kerachsky 1g; Hannah Boss 1a; Orabel Piccoli 1a.

10/14/17 – MS Soccer A vs. Block Island

4-3 Win

On a misty Homecoming Day, Rocky Hill hosted Block Island for what became a thrilling come from behind victory for our team. Although the weather presented some challenges, both teams came out charging. The Mariners continued to push their attack, and goals by Kaeley Zito and a penalty kick by Garrett Corsi gave us a 2-0 lead at the half. Then, the Block Island defense stiffened and their aggressive forwards netted three goals to put them in the lead. However, the Mariners refused to yield, and goals by Kaeley, and Brennan Hill led us to our third victory of the season. Bennett Fine, Cole Brown, and Davis Lee were stalwarts on defense; Dudley Samponaro had a key assist.
