JV Boys’ Basketball recorded its first win versus Rhode Island School for the Deaf in a well-played contest Wednesday night. Ten of the twelve player scored, and all played consistently strong defense throughout the evening. As it was a total team effort, no one stood out, but the coaching staff was impressed with the effort, enthusiasm, spirit, and sportsmanship that the team exhibited during the contest.
72-67 was the final tally for the Mariners home matchup versus Springfield Commonwealth. After trailing 56-64 with 1:55 remaining mariners went on a 16-3 run to finish the game. A layup by Mo Danmola sparked the run followed by a Quick 3 from Lora created mounting pressure that was too much for SCA. Hayes and Lora led the mariners with 23 points each Wilcox Chipped in 18 for the Rocky Hill School victory.
The Girls A Team beat Pine Point School, 23 to 10. With 5 minutes left, the steal by Francesca McCaughey and the lay-up by Kaeley Zito took the momentum RHS’s way. Leading scorers were Kaeley Zito 8 points, Charlotte 6 points, and 5 points from Lily Kerachsky.
Rocky Hill enjoyed another solid win in front of a home crowd. The girls played a very well-rounded aggressive game. In the first half alone they netted 15 steals and 8 assists. Six different players contributed to the game total by scoring points. High scorers were Katie Kerachsky, Alexis Cote and Kristina Greim each with 6 points. (First half stats only on R, B, S & A)

In a great back and forth game, the current Mariners defeated the alumni. Coach Mahmoud played with the alumni, but could not lead them back into the game in the second half. At the half, alumni were up by one.
JayJuan Hayes raced the length of the floor and beat the buzzer as Rocky Hill slipped past Classical, 73-71, in a nonleague matchup. Hayes saved the Mariners in a game where they led by 26 in the first half, as the Purple came all the way back to tie it at 71-71 with five seconds left. Tedrick Wilcox led Rocky Hill with 29 points while Hayes added 24. Patrick Welch hit five 3-pointers and led four Classical playerss in double figures with 29 points.
In the first game of Classical HS Christmas tournament vs Juanita Sanchez Cavaliers, the Mariners came out on top 72-52. After being down 1 at half 34-33 the Mariners kicked off the second half with a 21-5 run; ultimately this was too much for JSEC. Lora had 24 points Wilcox and Hayes each added 17.
