Road Victory for Mariner Golf Squad
- RHS 220
- MacDuffie 240
- Eagle Hill 246
- Col Larimer – shot a 38!
- Team is now 6-0
On Wednesday, the RHS golf team trekked a couple of hours to Belchertown, MA to compete in a tri-match versus MacDuffie School & Eagle Hill at the Cold Spring Country Club. Since Cold Spring CC is MacDuffie’s home course, their coach decided the three teams would play a 9 hole stroke play match using the best five scores from the top six seeded players on each team. Stroke play, a different format than match play, is the basis of the SENE Championship, being played May 16th so it was a good tune-up.
The match started on the back nine, a steep downhill 10th hole and finished on the 18th, which was a steep uphill. Cold Spring’s course was in good condition, albeit a bit soggy as all courses are this year given the heavy spring rains. The back nine, par 35, had numerous blind shots, with three dog-leg rights and two well bunkered elevated par threes. Needless to say everyone got plenty of exercise.
At day’s end, RHS’s top six golfers prevailed over both MacDuffie & Eagle Hill…the teams’ cumulative ‘best five’ stroke play scoring summary was as follows:
· Rocky Hill School – 220
· MacDuffie School – 240
· Eagle Hill School – 246
The RHS squad was led by Captain Cole Larimer, who shot a 38, that’s lights out!. Strong efforts were also recorded by Sonny Massotti, Sinead Burnett, Leo Zhou and Alexey Greim. Sonny recovered well, scoring a 45, after an initial first hole “hick-up”; he one putted seven greens.
The RHS golf team’s season record now stands at 6 & 0.
