Offense was a Struggle as Mariners Fall to Tough Dragons Team


The Mariners fall to 1-2 on the season at home in a nonleague game to the Dragons on Friday, April 12th.

Ariana Hernandez ’25 (Cranston, RI) and the defensive unit played outstanding against a fast Dragon’s offense. Hernandez had 13 saves in net. Standouts for the defensive unit include Abby Millard ’27 (East Greenwich, RI), Delilah Tully ‘26 (Warwick, RI), Izabella Macari ’26 (Warwick, RI), Lily Sokol ‘26 (Middletown, RI), and Katie O’Neil ’25 (Warwick, RI).

The Mariners went 10 for 17 in draw control against the Dragons’ circle unit with Captain Jeremi Morrison ’24 (East Greenwich, RI) credited for 8 and Emma Morrison ’28 (East Greenwich, RI) credited for 2. The circle unit, composed of the Morrisons and Captain Hadley Wheeler ’24 (Saunderstown, RI) along with support from Maddie Ruzzo ’26 (West Greenwich, RI) had a strong performance against the Dragons throughout the game, demonstrating tremendous resilience and effort.

The offensive unit struggled a bit under pressure with some forced plays and turnovers but never gave up. Captain J. Morrison scored off a draw and Ruzzo scored off an 8-meter. Kaileigh Kelleher ’25 (Cranston, RI) was a standout on offense, facilitating ball control and creating shot opportunities. Captain Mackenzie Carney ’24 (East Greenwich, RI) and Annalisa Gomes ’27 (Harrisville, RI) particularly stood out on the ride, pressuring the Dragons in their transition.

Wheeler led the team in ground balls with 4. Captain Elizabeth Howard ’24 (Saunderstown, RI), Macari, Sokol and Ruzzo, each had 2 ground balls. Millard also had a ground ball.

The Mariners look to turn things around on Wednesday, April 17th, when they host Lexington Christian Academy at 4:00 pm.
