Mariners Suffer Tough Loss to Fellow RI NEPSAC Class C Ravens

ROCKY HILL – 60, PORTSMOUTH ABBEY – 72

On Monday night, Rocky Hill traveled to Portsmouth Abbey looking to win an in state matchup. The Mariners started out the game slow, struggling to get stops on the defensive side of the ball, allowing Portsmouth Abbey to get to the rim at ease. Towards the end of the half, the Mariners made a run to bring the game close with the help of Justin Urey ’27 (Providence, RI) and Elijah McNair’s ’27 (East Providence, RI) offense.

Coming out of the half the Mariners made an adjustment and went zone on defense. This helped Rocky Hills defense in the second half, keeping them in striking distance for the remainder of the game. Omar Grullon ’25 (Warwick, RI) and AJ Shepard’s ’26 (Providence, RI) efforts on the defensive end instilled energy for the Mariners in the second half.

Down the stretch of this game, Portsmouth Abbey executed on some huge offensive possessions, hitting big threes to keep the lead. Rocky Hill didn’t have enough offensively to steal this win on the road, resulting in a tough loss. The Mariners look to get back in the win column against Kingswood Oxford on Thursday night.
