1/18/19 – Boys JV Basketball v St. Thomas More JV

Boys JV Home Opener!

  • RHS 31, STM 51

The JV team played by far their best game in the past two years with an outstanding effort on both ends of the floor. Unfortunately, in the second half, the Chancellors got hot from the outside and the Mariners couldn’t buy a basket. Eight different players scored and the coaching staff was extremely proud of the effort and play of the team!

Boys JV plays Portsmouth Abbey JV next week.

1/16/19 – Girls Varsity Basketball @ Eagle Hill

Lady Mariners Get to 4-0 in League Play!

  • RHS 36, Eagle Hill 22

The girls varsity basketball team continues to find ways to beat league opponents. Hard non-league battles seem to have made them stronger and more confident.

“I wasn’t happy with how we started the game, we were sluggish and it showed in ever phase of the game. We didn’t have any tempo or flow on offense. In the second half the girls adjusted and played well, especially on the defensive end; we turned Eagle Hill over and managed some easy baskets in transition. We are best when we are getting lay-ups off of steals or run outs from a defensive rebound.”

Next week, the Mariners will face Macduffie.

1/17/19 – Boys MS B Basketball @ Gordon

B Team Season Has Begun!

  • RHS 7, Gordon 34
  • Dudley Samponaro 4 points

The boys B team played hard and played overall great defense. Dudley Samponaro was the teams leading scorer with 4 points coming from a layup and 2 free throws. Boden Dair had a nice mid-range jump shot from the short corner for 2 points. BJ Kerachsky and Cole Brown handled the ball well on offense and played great back-court defense, both recording four steals. Jae Park and Massimo Decenso had the paint locked down, having 2 and 1 blocks respectively. Joshua Bowater left it all out on the court and recorded 5 rebounds and 2 steals.

Next week, the boys will travel to Nativity Prep on Thursday!

1/17/19 – Girls MS Basketball v Gordon

Girl’s Middle School – Opening game of the season!

  • RHS 11 and  Gordon 30

  • Kristina Greim 5 points; Katie Kerachsky, Lexi Cote, and Skye Connell each with  2 points.

Franny McCaughley, Katie, and Hannah Boss were aggressive on the defensive end and helped run the offense.  It was great to see Lexi Cote, Skye, and Sydney Boss solid in the paint against their larger players from Gordon.  Since it was our first game, the sixth graders were introduced to a truly fast paced game. We did see solid rebounding from CeCe Tamburini and Jillian Pogachar.

Next week, the girl’s will face Community Prep at home on Tuesday!

1/17/19 – Boys MS A Basketball @ Gordon

Opening game of the season!

  • RHS 25, Gordon 61
  • Derick Block 10 points and 3 blocks; Hadley Martinez 7 points

Derick Block and Hadley Martinez both were a serious threat down-low with multiple rebounds and points inside and outside of the offensive paint. Alex Lehouiller, Brennan Hill and Colin Zito worked the ball quickly on offense and played ferociously on defense with a handful of steals. Alex had 2 points from the field and 2 completed shots from the foul line. Ben Lawson had 2 points, 2 blocks and a rebound. Brennan had 2 steals and a block. Colin had an assist and 2 rebounds.

Next week, the boys will face Community Prep at home on Tuesday!

Mariners Remain Undefeated in the SENE

  • RHS 71, PCD 36
  • Tedrick Wilcox 20 points; Steven Lora 16 points; Jay-Juan Hayes 17 points; BJ Jenkins 14 points

At halftime, the game could have gone either way, with Rocky Hill Boys Basketball on top of PCD by only 13 points.  However, the Mariners hit the second half running, scoring 18 unanswered points early in the half to secure a big win in a SENE league match-up.  Strong defense and hustle by junior Kobe Polley and senior Steven Lora were critical to the win.

Boys Basketball has a long week, with games on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

1/14/19 – Girls Varsity Basketball v PCD

After Slow Start, Mariners Take Control of League Game

  • RHS 31, PCD 19

Rocky Hill Girls Basketball continues their climb to the top of the SENE with a win over Providence Country Day.  In a very defensive first half, both sides were forcing turnovers and running the tempo.  After halftime, the Mariners responded with offensive dominance, creating several opportunities to drive inside and execute plays.

“PCD is a great team and is well-coached,” said Coach Tobey.  “If it wasn’t for the first seven minutes of the second half when we scored several unanswered baskets, it could have been a totally different game.”

1/11/19 – Boys Varsity Basketball v Williams

Full Team Effort in Huge SENE Win for Boys Basketball

  • RHS 103, Williams 22
  • Tedrick Wilcox 18 points; Steven Lora 25 points

Every Mariner got in on the action on Friday in a huge league win over Williams School.  Rocky Hill controlled the tempo of the game from the first whistle, forcing turnovers and creating offensive opportunities throughout the game.   Notable contributions from the bench included BJ Jenkins with 15 points and 4 steals and Max Lehouiller grabbing 11 boards with 4 assists and 3 steals.  Sophomore Dylan Lehouiller grabbed his first five points of the Varsity season.

“This is a great start to 2019 for our team,” said Coach Mahmoud.  “Looking forward to continuing in league play.”

1/11/19 – Girls Varsity Basketball @ Williams

Two Win Week for Rocky Hill Girls Basketball

  • RHS 28, Williams 17

The Mariners traveled to the Williams School today for a SENE league match-up.  It was a battle of the defenses in a tight contest that saw many changes in possession.  Freshmen Charlotte Boss, Kaeley Zito, and Paige Johnson all logged major minutes and have been gelling nicely.

“I’m happy with this week, coming off of break; 2-0 to start 2019!  We need to learn to play with consistency in the areas we can control; we struggle with mental lapses sometimes but we are learning to re-group quickly as we continue to grow as a team,” commented Coach Tobey.

1/9/19 – Girls Varsity Basketball @ BCA

Mariners Welcome New Year with Big Win

  • RHS 45; BCA 25

Girls Varsity Basketball took to the road in their first competition back from winter break.  They faced a tough adversary in Barrington Christian Academy, but after a slow first half, went on a tear.  Senior Aviva Beringhause played well in the paint, asserting her authority over rebounds and loose balls.

“The girls brought a lot of energy on defense.  With the long layoff since our last game I wasn’t sure how we would respond to competition but the girls picked up right where they left off!  I couldn’t be more proud of how we played as a team!” said Coach Tobey.

Rocky Hill heads to Williams on Friday for a SENE matchup.
