WORLD CULTURES WEEK – The Philippines

LOOKING FOR CLEAN “TRASH”:  In order to assist in the preparation for our Philippine week culture immersion, we are asking our students to bring in some recyclable items for an “upcycling” activity later in the week. Various plastics and cardboard will work best, as well as wires from small electronics and other interesting items destined for the landfill, but potential materials for creative inspiration. Please refrain from aluminum cans with sharp edges and glass that may get broken.

FUNDRAISER RUN BY NATIONAL JUNIOR HONORS SOCIETY:   The students in the NJHS will be selling treats each day to raise money to donate to an organization in the Philippines.  These schedule is as follows:

• Monday– Smoothies in Ms. Conroy’s room
• Tuesday– Bake Sale in the cafeteria
• Wednesday– Smoothies in Ms. Conroy’s room
• Thursday- Bake Sale in the cafeteria

ALEX & ANI STUDENT DESIGN CHALLENGE

● Create charm DESIGNS that represent the RHS Core Competencies!!!
● The top 3 DESIGNS per competency will be chosen and 3D printed into charm prototypes.

The 8th grade class began their Exposition presentations this past week with Thomas Fitzgerald leading the way presenting on Rocky Point Park to the entire Middle School community.  This year’s exposition theme is Rhode Island.

Rachel Arabian presents her exposition on the Pawtucket Red Sox.

The 8th grade students visited the Wickford Mills and the Hive on Wednesday, where they got to meet several small business owners and innovators. Later this winter, Rocky Hill School artwork will be on display at the Hive, and the 8th graders will be designing and painting a mural there to highlight the history and the future of this wonderful site.

Seventh grade students Hadley Martinez, Andrew Hogan and Isabel Guastella write their thoughts to questions centered on civil rights during our Martin Luther King Jr. activities on Friday.

Our RHEA programs will be starting next week. The following courses are available for Middle School students:

• Felt and Wool Crafts with Ms. Gower, grade 5-8 (Mondays)
• Cooking for Community with Ms. Savoia and Chef Jay, grades 6-12 (Tuesdays/Wednesdays)
• Art Tastings with Ms. Savoia, grade 5-12 (Thursdays)
