Opportunity Knocks! Center for Innovation Updates
All School:

Director of Innovation, Meg Stowe, at Harvard Graduate School of Education to meet with graduate researcher to review findings from the study conducted to measure impact of programs in the Center’s beta year. Full roll-out and implementation for 2018/2019 school year, based on findings.

Lower School:

3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will be traveling to Boston Productions, Inc.Boston Productions, Inc. is a company that designs and develops interactive media experiences for museums all over the country. They are in the early stages of their next two interactive experiences for the traveling MathAlive! exhibition and are excited to engage with our students to help them build their newest experiences that will be used around the country. They play-test at different stages of software development. The interactives that we’re now developing for MathAlive are:(1) EXTREME WEATER ALERT: Users will observe and analyze weather satellite data that is visualized on a map. They’ll use that data to build a weather forecast, and determine what type of storm is on its way (e.g. hurricane, blizzard, ice storm, flooding, etc.). Next, the user records a brief weather alert video, to warn local citizens of the impending storm. Users can then email their personalized video home. (2) CYBER SECURITY HERO: This interactive teaches users about cyber security and multi-factor authentication, to protect computer systems from hackers and computer viruses. The activity is kinda like a tower-defense game, where invaders are moving along networked lines trying to get to your computer drive. The user sets up defense to block the invaders, using things like pass codes, a security card swipe, a biotech fingerprint scanner, etc. It’s a hands-on game-like activity.
A-I-R, Ana Bess Moyer Bell ‘06 working with 2nd and 3rd grade students to explore their emotional landscape through painting, poetry, writing and performing with Ms. Moyer Bell as mentor.
Several students have begun working with BlocksCAD in an online coaching course to explore 3D design and coding and are designing their own learning objectives with their coach/educator.
