What a crazy week! We’re so glad everyone is safe, and we are wishing Jose would just move along!
Next week we wind up our study of apples. We have taste tested, examined the parts of an apple, made a still life painting and cooked up some applesauce. The books we will be reading will include:

The Golf Classic is on Monday! If you would like to participate in golf, tennis, or just dinner, please contact Beth DeGerlia ASAP! BDegerlia@rockyhill.org
A big THANKS to all who attended Parent Night in Lower School. It was wonderful to have you all here. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to drop me an email.
To answer some questions that have come in, here is the RHS policy regarding missed days:
“We will offer “make-up days” only for a child’s scheduled days that fall on a day that RHS closes (as opposed to when a child is out for other reasons.) Even then, the day to be made up needs to be arranged with Lisa and Mrs. Ponterelli so that it works for the class size or any other considerations on a given day.”
Our Virtuoso schedule is:
Tuesday: Science with Mr. Wyzga and Spanish with Senora
Wednesday: Music with Ms. Emily
Thursday: P.E. with Mrs. Wood (don’t forget your sneakers)
Friday: Library (please bring your library books in)
As the weather begins to cool off, please make sure the extra clothing in your child’s RHS bag are appropriate.
On Thursday, October 5th we will have a visit from the Fire Department for Fire Safety Week!
Homecoming is Saturday, October 14th!
Do you know a family who would benefit from a Rocky Hill education? Please send them to our Fall Admissions Open House on Sunday, October 22nd at 1:00 p.m.
Our annual Pumpkin Carving Night will be Tuesday, October 24th at 5:30 p.m. Bring your pumpkin, carving tools and something to share for dinner. Is there a parent who would like to organize our potluck? Just let me know.

Every two weeks, your child will receive a Scholastic classroom magazine called My Big World. There are online features that go along with this educational magazine. There are games, videos, printables, great articles and more! Check it out and feel free to use it often! http://clifford.scholastic.com/
Our classroom password is bythebay1718
September book orders are due on Wednesday. If you would prefer to order online, it’s really easy! Go to http://www.scholastic.com/home/
Click on Shop Flyers and use our classroom code KP44F
Don’t forget to check out our classroom blog! http://blogs.rockyhill.org/bythebaypreschool/ You can also find it through the RHS App!
Headed out shopping and want to pick up something for our class? We have a wishing tree in the the Cubbie Room! Grab an apple and help keep things running smoothly! Any contribution is so very appreciated! Thank you in advance.
If your child would like to keep slippers in their cubbie, I absolutely encourage it! That way, when it rains, you need only worry about boots and not a change of shoes. Just please don’t forget sneakers for Thursdays.
Have a wonderful weekend and I’ll see you all Monday!
September 03, 2017
I hope you had a wonderful summer! Miss Amanda and I are busy getting our classroom ready and we’re very excited to see you all! I am going to overwhelm you with information, but please read carefully and feel free to ask any questions.
Your child will receive a letter in the mail from me. If they do not get it by orientation on Tuesday, please let me know and I will take care of it.
Orientation is Tuesday, September 5th from 9:00-10:30. Can’t wait to see you there! Bring your camera!
Our family project for September is a family banner. You will find a paper banner in your child’s cubbie. Please take the time to decorate it as a whole family. When you are finished, bring it in. These banners will hang in our classroom all year.
I am sending home a questionnaire for you to fill out about your child. This information is really helpful for us. Please get it back to us as soon as you can. Now’s your chance to tell us about your child. Brag a lot!!!
If your child is staying for rest time, he or she will need a nap kit. This kit should contain a crib sheet and blanket or a small sleeping bag or bed roll. A small pillow is great too and any lovey that makes them feel more comfortable and relaxed. Nap kits should be self contained and will be stored in special cubbies. They will be sent home once a week (more if necessary) to be cleaned.
On your child’s hook you will find an RHS shoe bag. Your child’s bag should contain at least one change of clothes, complete with shoes (gravity is a wonderful thing!). Even if your child has not had an accident in a very long time, we ask that you please fill the bag. It doesn’t take much for a glass of water to end up in a lap! You will be reminded to check the bag seasonally or as needed.
Yes, we celebrate birthdays! If you would like to send in a nut free treat on your child’s birthday, please do! If you are sending invitations to a party and are inviting the entire class, you may send them in and we’ll send them home. If you are not inviting the whole class, we ask that you please send them in the mail.
We offer Scholastic book orders each month. You’ll find September’s in your child’s cubbie. You may place an order either online with a credit card or by sending the order form in with a check. Either way, we hope you’ll take advantage of these low cost books and help your child become a life-long reader. It’s like Christmas when the books arrive! Each dollar you spend earns free books for our classroom!
We encourage you to check the blog frequently. You’ll find our newsletters, calendars, recipes and photos. Feel free to share it with out of town family so they can catch a glimpse of your child’s school life.
We begin our Virtuoso schedule the second week of school. Our schedule is as follows:
Monday: Spanish with Senora Rambo
Tuesday: Science With Mr. Wyzga
Wednesday: Music with Ms. Emily
Thursday: P.E. with Mrs. Wood
Friday: Library with Mrs. Silva
This year we are doing away with the Classroom Helper! Before you all “Boo” me, each child will choose a job each day. It will be SO fun!
Picture day is our first Friday! September 8th we will take school pictures. If your child does not normally come to school on Friday, please bring them in for pictures! Photos will be available for purchase for friends and family!
Mark your calendars for Parent Night! Monday, September 18th, we hope you’ll join us for an up close and personal look at your child’s school day!
There are a few things you need to bring in the first week of school:
A baby picture
A family picture
A smooth rock to be painted (not too small but not too big!)
Snack and Water Bottle each day please
Please DO NOT bring toys from home (except for a rest time lovey).
And finally, each year we visit our students at home. This short 15 minute visit is a chance for us to see your child where they are most comfortable. They have a chance to show off their toys and chat, maybe share a story. It goes a long way to strengthen our bond very quickly. If you have not had a home visit and would like to schedule one, Amanda and I will be putting a sign up sheet on the parent board.
Sorry to throw so much at you so fast! I promise it’s not at all complicated! Have a wonderful long weekend and we’ll see you on Tuesday!!!

It’s hard to believe that we are heading into the last few days of school! What a year it has been! I have just a few things to share:

There will be no extended day baking this week.
On Tuesday afternoon, we will head to the gym to go see the K2 theater and music performance!

They will play games and spend some fun time connecting with their soon-to-be teacher and classmates. Please bring a swim suit and towel. This fun get-together will happen rain or shine!
If you are planning to send your child to school on Thursday for Moving Up Day, please let me know.

Happy Memorial Day! I hope you all have enjoyed this long (mostly dry) weekend.
We are heading into the final days of school. Please read carefully.
This week we will begin wrapping up our school year. Each day you will probably find lots of wonderful work in your child’s cubby. It may be easier for all if you send in a paper bag with handles to carry this very important work.
Field Day is Wednesday! Please make sure your child arrives ready to spend the morning outside, sneakers, sunscreen, weather appropriate clothing and a water bottle. ALL students are invited to participate in Field Day. If your child does not usually attend school on Wednesdays, please send them in for the morning so they don’t miss this wonderful day.
Calling all hams! Does your child sing, dance, have a particular talent that they’d like to share? Sign them up for the LS Talent Share taking place on Wednesday morning, June 7th. Deadline for registration is this coming Friday, June 2nd. Contact Ms. Emily: email@example.com
We are planning a “beach party” for PreK and K students for next week. Watch for more information!
Wednesday the 7th is our last full day of school. Thursday, June 8th, is Moving Up Day for 5th and 8th grade students. Your child is certainly invited to attend if you prefer. Please keep in mind that it is a dress-up day where we will be seated for the entire ceremony (approximately 2 hours). Dismissal is immediately following the ceremony.
There may be several reminders that come along in the next few days. I will also post them in my Dinner-X-Change.
Have you registered for SEA? Summer Enrichment Academy is a wonderful way to keep your child engaged and connected to RHS this summer! http://www.rockyhill.org/home/summer-enrichment-academy/

Please sign up, if you have not already, to bring something to share and/or plants. Bring your hand tools and your gardening gloves It looks to be a wonderful evening!
By now I hope you have all had a chance to see this years Preschool Quilt hanging in our classroom. We will raffle it off a Garden Night. Tickets are $1 a piece and all proceeds will fund next year’s classroom quilt.

Well, the chicks are happily back at the farm and we survived the very chilly damp day. We have enjoyed learning about dinosaurs and will finish that up next week. We will also start our new unit on bugs and plants. Some of the books we’ll be reading will be:
“Up in the Garden and Down in the Dirt” Kate Messner and Christopher Silas Neal
“Pond Walk” by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace
“Over in the Meadow” by Ezra Jack Keats
“All About Seeds” by Susan Kuchalla and Jane McBee
A HUGE thank you to all who helped make Teacher Appreciation Day so wonderful! We are so lucky to have you!
Scholastic book orders are due on May 10th. This is the last book order of the school year, so don’t miss out! If you prefer to order online, that’s great. Just remember to use our classroom code, KP44F.
The Garden Night sign up sheet is on the parent board. Please sign up to help with dinner. We are also looking for some plants for the garden and for the pots on the fence (full sun annuals). We have had one parent volunteer to help get the garden ready to plant. Do we have any other takers? Garden night is Tuesday, May 16th at 5:30. We promise to have you out by 7:00! You’ll need your hand tools and gloves. Don’t forget your camera!
Take a look at our class quilt hanging on our classroom. This quilt will go home with one lucky family on Garden Night. Chances are $1 and you may purchase as many as you’d like. The proceeds buy supplies for next year’s quilt!
Don’t forget to check out our class blog! We update it regularly. http://blogs.rockyhill.org/bythebaypreschool/
April 28, 2017
We have had a wonderful week! We’ve hatched 14 chicks, said “goodbye” to RHS seniors and now the sun is shining!
Next week we take a brief look at Dinosaurs. The books we will be reading will include:
“Little Kids First Big Book of Dinosaurs” by Catherine D. Hughes and Franco Tempesta
“If the Dinosaurs Came Back” by Bernard Most
“Dinosaurs, Dinosaurs” by Byron Barton
“Dinosaurs!” by Gail Gibbons
If your child would like to bring in a stuffed dinosaur to share, that would be great! Please do not bring any other toys to school other than nap toys or those asked for. We would all feel terrible if something happened to a favorite toy.
Tuesday is our Field Trip to Casey Farms. We will leave Rocky Hill around 11:20 and return by 3:00. Some of you have expressed interest in chaperoning the trip. We would love that, however, because of the nature of this trip, there are no siblings allowed. We made “farm animal” t-shirts to wear to the farm. Weather permitting we ask that you send your child in a long sleeved shirt and jeans with sneakers or boots. We will put their t-shirts on over their long sleeved shirt. We also ask for sunscreen and a hat.
The final book order of the school year is due by Wednesday, May 10th.
Mark your calendars for Garden Night! Tuesday, May 16th we will meet together in the playground for a cookout and garden planting party. What can you do? We are looking for some volunteers to get our small garden ready for planting. We will put up a list of plants we’d like to have. We will have a sign up sheet for dinner. Please sign up for something and help make this fun event memorable! Finally, on the 16th, bring your plants, your dinner contribution, your gardening gloves, your children and your sense of humor! It will be a wonderful night!
Don’t forget to check out our blog! http://blogs.rockyhill.org/bythebaypreschool/
Don’t forget the sunscreen for your child’s cubbie!
Monday – Raina
Tuesday – Mila
Wednesday – Hannah
Thursday – Alexandra
Friday – Praneeth
Have a great weekend and we’ll see you next week!
April 24, 2017
I hope you had a wonderful weekend and were able to get out and enjoy the beautiful day today! As we get ready for our chicks to hatch on Tuesday, we will continue our study of animals. We were going to move on to desert animals, but we have been having so much fun with the ocean, we are going to remain “Under the Sea”.
It looks like the Spring Fling was a wonderful evening! Hope you all had a great time! Share your pictures please!
Thank you all for returning your quilt squares. If you have not returned yours yet, please get it in to me as soon as you can. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
Our Preschool Garden Night is coming up on May 16th. On that evening, we will get together after school for hamburgers, hotdogs and a night of gardening fun! Before we get there, we need some volunteers to get us organized. Don’t worry. I will help! If you have a green thumb (or even if you don’t), please consider helping put together our garden.
Are you signed up for Dinner-x-Change? How is it going? Are you enjoying the gabs (when I remember to add them)? Please let me know your thoughts.
Our virtuoso schedule this week is:
Monday – PE with Mrs. Wood (sneakers please!)
Tuesday – Spanish with Senora
Wednesday – Music with Miss Emily and Science in Mr. Wyzga’s roo
Thursday – Library with Mrs. Silva (don’t forget your book)
Friday – Music with Miss Emily
This week we say goodbye to our seniors as they head off to their internships. On Friday, our students from Preschool-Grade 2 will escort the seniors in to their last all school assembly. Then we will serenade them before we send them on their way!
What are you packing your child for snack? Please be careful not to overload them! We eat snack between 9:30 and 10:00. They have a tendency to feel like they should eat everything in their lunchbox. Then we have an early lunch at 11:40 and often times, they are not hungry. If you want to pack an extra snack for afternoon, just let us know. We’ll make sure to help your child make choices rather than feel like they have to eat it all.
All students need a white t-shirt to paint on Friday.
Monday – Elliott
Tuesday – Zoe
Wednesday – Owen
Thursday – Penny
Friday – Sofia
As the weather gets warmer, please make sure your child has seasonally appropriate clothing. Also, please check for size. We have all grown so much!
Is you child wearing sunscreen when they arrive at school? Please make sure they are protected from sunburn. Leave a bottle in their cubby and we will reapply when we go outside.
Are you going to the Gala? It is such a fun event. I hope to see you there!
Have a great night and I’ll see you in the morning!
