Next Week’s News! 9/29/2017

Hi all!

And just like that, the first month of school is gone! Happy end of the week! I hope you have something fun planned for the weekend.
We are SO excited about next week. It’s Fire Prevention Week and we’re going to have a very special visit from the Warwick Fire Department on Thursday! While we are preparing for that, we will be reading:
“Fire in the Forest” by Samantha Brooke and Kenny Kiernan
“Curious George at the Fire Station” and “Curious George and the Firefighters” by Margret & H.A. Rey
“Going to the Firehouse” by Mercer Mayer
“Firefighters” by Jacqueline Laks Garman
Do you have an escape plan at home? Now would be the perfect time to practice that!
Scholastic Book Orders are due on Friday, October 6th.
We are looking for leaves! We would like to press colorful leaves of all shapes and sizes for an  upcoming project. If you find some, please flatten them and bring them in. Other signs of Fall are welcome also – acorns, maple seeds, etc.
On Tuesday, October 24th, we will have our 5th annual Preschool Pumpkin Carving Night! Please plan to join us at 5:30 for dinner and carving. A sign up sheet for dinner will go up shortly. So, find yourself the perfect pumpkin and get ready for a fun night!
Don’t forget to check the blog! I have had several parents ask for the recipe for Fresh Apple Cake that we made this week. It’s on the blog!  http://blogs.rockyhill.org/bythebaypreschool/
Mark your calendars!
There is no school on Monday, October 9th, in celebration of First People/Columbus Day.
Homecoming is Saturday, October 14th. Come for a fun filled day!

Next Week’s News! 9/22/17

What a crazy week! We’re so glad everyone is safe, and we are wishing Jose would just move along!

Next week we wind up our study of apples. We have taste tested, examined the parts of an apple, made a still life painting and cooked up some applesauce. The books we will be reading will include:
“The Apple Pie Tree” by Zoe Hall and Shari Halpern
“The Busy Little Squirrel” by Nancy Tafuri
“Johnny Appleseed” by Patricia Demuth and Michael Montgomery
“Fall” by Sian Smith
“Flora’s Very Windy Day” by Jeanne Birdsall and Matt Phelan
“Apple Trouble” by Ragnhild Scamell and Michael Terry

The Golf Classic is on Monday! If you would like to participate in golf, tennis, or just dinner, please contact Beth DeGerlia ASAP! BDegerlia@rockyhill.org

A big THANKS to all who attended Parent Night in Lower School. It was wonderful to have you all here. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to drop me an email.

To answer some questions that have come in, here is the RHS policy regarding missed days:
“We will offer “make-up days” only for a child’s scheduled days that fall on a day that RHS closes (as opposed to when a child is out for other reasons.) Even then, the day to be made up needs to be arranged with Lisa and Mrs. Ponterelli so that it works for the class size or any other considerations on a given day.”
Our Virtuoso schedule is:
Tuesday: Science with Mr. Wyzga and Spanish with Senora
Wednesday: Music with Ms. Emily
Thursday: P.E. with Mrs. Wood (don’t forget your sneakers)
Friday: Library (please bring your library books in)

As the weather begins to cool off, please make sure the extra clothing in your child’s RHS bag are appropriate.

Looking forward:

On Thursday, October 5th we will have a visit from the Fire Department for Fire Safety Week!

Homecoming is Saturday, October 14th!

Do you know a family who would benefit from a Rocky Hill education? Please send them to our Fall Admissions Open House on Sunday, October 22nd at 1:00 p.m.

Our annual Pumpkin Carving Night will be Tuesday, October 24th at 5:30 p.m. Bring your pumpkin, carving tools and something to share for dinner. Is there a parent who would like to organize our potluck? Just let me know.

Headed out shopping and want to pick up something for our class? We have a wishing tree in the the Cubbie Room! Grab an apple and help keep things running smoothly! Any contribution is so very appreciated! Thank you in advance.

If your child would like to keep slippers in their cubbie, I absolutely encourage it! That way, when it rains, you need only worry about boots and not a change of shoes. Just please don’t forget sneakers for Thursdays.

Have a wonderful weekend and I’ll see you all Monday!

September 03, 2017

Welcome!!!

Hi all!

I hope you had a wonderful summer! Miss Amanda and I are busy getting our classroom ready and we’re very excited to see you all! I am going to overwhelm you with information, but please read carefully and feel free to ask any questions.

Your child will receive a letter in the mail from me. If they do not get it by orientation on Tuesday, please let me know and I will take care of it.
Orientation is Tuesday, September 5th from 9:00-10:30. Can’t wait to see you there! Bring your camera!
Our family project for September is a family banner. You will find a paper banner in your child’s cubbie. Please take the time to decorate it as a whole family. When you are finished, bring it in. These banners will hang in our classroom all year.
I am sending home a questionnaire for you to fill out about your child. This information is really helpful for us. Please get it back to us as soon as you can. Now’s your chance to tell us about your child. Brag a lot!!!
If your child is staying for rest time, he or she will need a nap kit. This kit should contain a crib sheet and blanket or a small sleeping bag or bed roll. A small pillow is great too and any lovey that makes them feel more comfortable and relaxed. Nap kits should be self contained and will be stored in special cubbies. They will be sent home once a week (more if necessary) to be cleaned.
On your child’s hook you will find an RHS shoe bag. Your child’s bag should contain at least one change of clothes, complete with shoes (gravity is a wonderful thing!). Even if your child has not had an accident in a very long time, we ask that you please fill the bag. It doesn’t take much for a glass of water to end up in a lap! You will be reminded to check the bag seasonally or as needed.
Yes, we celebrate birthdays! If you would like to send in a nut free treat on your child’s birthday, please do! If you are sending invitations to a party and are inviting the entire class, you may send them in and we’ll send them home. If you are not inviting the whole class, we ask that you please send them in the mail.
We offer Scholastic book orders each month. You’ll find September’s in your child’s cubbie. You may place an order either online with a credit card or by sending the order form in with a check. Either way, we hope you’ll take advantage of these low cost books and help your child become a life-long reader. It’s like Christmas when the books arrive! Each dollar you spend earns free books for our classroom!
I have attached the calendar for September. Each month you will have access to our calendar via our blog: http://blogs.rockyhill.org/bythebaypreschool/
We encourage you to check the blog frequently. You’ll find our newsletters, calendars, recipes and photos. Feel free to share it with out of town family so they can catch a glimpse of your child’s school life.
We begin our Virtuoso schedule the second week of school. Our schedule is as follows:
Monday: Spanish with Senora Rambo
Tuesday: Science With Mr. Wyzga
Wednesday: Music with Ms. Emily
Thursday: P.E. with Mrs. Wood
Friday: Library with Mrs. Silva
This year we are doing away with the Classroom Helper! Before you all “Boo” me, each child will choose a job each day. It will be SO fun!
Picture day is our first Friday! September 8th we will take school pictures. If your child does not normally come to school on Friday, please bring them in for pictures! Photos will be available for purchase for friends and family!
Mark your calendars for Parent Night! Monday, September 18th, we hope you’ll join us for an up close and personal look at your child’s school day!
There are a few things you need to bring in the first week of school:
A baby picture
A family picture
A smooth rock to be painted (not too small but not too big!)
Snack and Water Bottle each day please
Please DO NOT bring toys from home (except for a rest time lovey).
And finally, each year we visit our students at home. This short 15 minute visit is a chance for us to see your child where they are most comfortable. They have a chance to show off their toys and chat, maybe share a story. It goes a long way to strengthen our bond very quickly. If you have not had a home visit and would like to schedule one, Amanda and I will be putting a sign up sheet on the parent board.
Sorry to throw so much at you so fast! I promise it’s not at all complicated! Have a wonderful long weekend and we’ll see you on Tuesday!!!
🙂
