This Week’s News! 11/28/16
Hi everyone!
I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend and were able to enjoy time with family and friends. The next three weeks will be a whirlwind of activity. We will begin our look at Winter holidays. The books we will be reading will include:
“The Legend of the Pointsettia” by Tomie dePaola
“Light the Lights!” by Margaret Moorman
“The Trees of the Dancing Goats” by Patricia Polacco
“Is It Christmas Yet?” by Jane Chapman
Is there a special family celebration that you’d like to share with the class? Let me know. We’d LOVE to have you come in!
The last book order before the holidays will go in on Wednesday, November 30th. This early deadline will ensure that you get your books before the break. You may send in your order with a check made out to Scholastic, or order online at www.scholastic.com using our classroom code KP44F. If your order contains gifts, please let us know and we will bag them up when they come in!
Now is the time to check your child’s bag of spare clothes. It is cold outside and we don’t want to reach in and pull out shorts, or a t-shirt. Each bag should contain a complete change of winter clothing including underpants and undershirt (if your child wears one), socks and shoes.
For our family project for December, we will adopt The Potter League for Animals in Middletown. This beautiful “no kill” shelter does amazing things for lost and homeless pets up and down the East Coast. Additionally, they have made a big commitment to community education. This is how it works. On our classroom Christmas tree, you will see lots of small candy canes with tags attached. Choose a tag (or 2 or 3), shop for the item with your child, bring it in, and your child gets the candy cane! There are some perishable items requested for their smaller animals. Please bring those things in the last week of school, December 12-16. We will load everything up and make a delivery on that Friday in your children’s names. Don’t see a tag your interested in? They have a wish list online at http://potterleague.org/ Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Last year when we delivered the gifts, we came home with a cat! Let’s hope this year we will be able to say no!
On Wednesday mornings, the entire Lower School faculty meets from 7:30-8:10. Sometimes we need to run a little over, although we try to be very prompt. Rocky Hill has hired Sadie Reimer, my senior daughter, to come in and cover the classroom until we arrive. Sadie is no stranger to the class and you should feel free to leave your child with her. She has worked with children in the summer program here at RHS and she runs the nursery program at her church. If you have and questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to connect with me.
We have a normal schedule this week…
Monday: P.E. with Mrs. Wood
Tuesday: Spanish with Senora
Wednesday: Science with Mr. Wyzga and Music in Miss Emily’s room
Thursday: We go to the Library with Mrs. Silva
Friday: Music in Miss Emily’s room
Our Classroom Helpers this week are:

Tuesday ~ Alexandra

Thursday ~ Praneeth
Friday ~ Elliott
Looking ahead:
On December 16th, our last morning before break, we will have a holiday party for ALL By The Bay students. Please plan to have your child attend. We will have a festive snack together and then swap gifts. Your child will be given the name of another child. Please take your child shopping to buy a gift and help them wrap it. If you will not be able to make it to the party, please let us know ASAP. We would hate for a child to not receive a gift. Also, if you are planning to bring siblings, you are welcome to wrap a small gift for them as well. We don’t want anyone to be left out! There will be a sign up sheet on the Parent Board for goodies.

Next Week’s News! 11/4/2016
Hi all!
Hard to believe that we are heading into the second week of November! As the weather cools please make sure that there is always a hat and mittens in your child’s cubby. We ask that you do not send gloves as they are so tricky for your child to put on and we are really promoting independence.
We continue our look at turkeys next week. The books we will be reading in class will include:
“A Plump and Perky Turkey” by Teresa Bateman and Jeff Shelly
“A Turkey for Thanksgiving” by Eve Bunting and Diane deGroat
“The Great Turkey Race” by Steve Metzger and Jim Paillot
“A is for Autumn” by Robert Maass
Over the course of the next two weeks we will be holding Parent Teacher Conferences. There is a sign-up sheet on the Parent Board. Please sign up for a 20 minute conference! We are so fortunate at RHS to have an amazing team of virtuosos who teach your children and establish strong relationships with them! If you would like to meet with your child’s virtuosos, please contact them directly. Maybe you just want to reach out and tell them how much your child enjoys their classes…
Mrs. Sue Wood swood@rockyhillorg
Senora Nancy Maguire Rambo nmaguirerambo@rockyhill.org
Ms. Emily Serotta eserotta@rockyhill.org
